British Airways (BA) has the best performing website of any UK airline, a new report has revealed.

A league table of such websites published by NetCallidus, a search engine optimisation (SEO) firm, has revealed that the company's website outperforms any of its rivals.

The agency suggests this is the result of its inbound links, meaning it ranks more highly within search results than competitors.

Managing director of NetCallidus Mark Furber remarked: "The BA website has significantly more pages indexed in Google (147,000 in comparison to Virgin’s 3,240), which means it has a much higher chance of being found for different search terms typed in."

He noted that a page's ranking ultimately comes down to the number of indexed pages it possesses and the amount of inbound links those pages possess.

Marketers wishing to emulate the success of the website should consider Google's advice to webmasters, which urges them not to use the services of SEO companies that use unethical or black-hat tactics such as paying for links.

To boost rankings, it recommends that a website fill its pages with useful and information rich content.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18598823-ADNFCR
