Having an online presence is an essential requirement for companies developing their business presence, one media company has said.

David Mill, managing director of MediaCo, also said there was a "grave danger" for firms that ignored this potential business revenue avenue.

Figures from the Forum of Small Business (FSB) estimate that in November 2007, under 50 per cent of the UK's small to medium-sized businesses have a web presence.

Mr Mill added: "All companies of all sizes can benefit from having a web presence. Depending on the nature of their business, this can range from a small online brochure to a fully-functional ecommerce site."

"SMEs can boost their web presence using various means, including presenting their website address on vehicles, buildings, stationary etc. Beyond that, they can employ an online marketing company to provide such as search engine marketing and email marketing services."

Certain online marketing activity such as the implementation of Pay-Per-Click advertising could have an immediate impact on companies' website revenues, he concluded.
