Cosmopolitan magazine has doubled the number of visitors navigating to its pages after optimising the website for search engines, it has been reported.

Online publication Journalism.co.uk has seen figures which show the online magazine received 415,165 unique hits in May, compared to just over 176,000 in October.

Hearst Digital, the firm behind the website, recently conducted a major overhaul of its sites, introducing search engine optimisation (SEO) tactics and social network marketing.

The managing director of the firm Alex Ballantyne told the news provider the Cosmopolitan website is on track to reach its goals of half a million visitors a month by the end of 2008.

"We're well ahead of the curve with Cosmo; it has been a fantastic response from the market," he added.

Earlier this year, packing manufacturer The Right Angle stated that SEO had helped it "dramatically" boost sales in less than six months.

Prior to employing a search marketing agency, the company admitted it had been struggling to compete.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18671335-ADNFCR
