Effective online representation "essential"

Representing a business on the internet is one of a website's most vital tasks and effectively explaining a firm's purpose provides essential support for the online resource, according to an expert.
Writing on web resource useit.com, sector commentator Jakob Nielsen states while most sites have an About Us section to give details regarding their purpose, they often do not do this successfully.
He suggests companies keen to positively present their brand provide About Us information at four levels of detail.
These should be a tagline on the homepage which is made up of a few words or a brief sentence summarising the company's purpose.
Secondly, one or two paragraphs at the top of the main About Us page should offer more detail on the company's goal and achievements.
A fact sheet should follow, which provides other essential information on the business.
Finally, subsidiary pages with more depth for people eager to learn more about the organisation should form the final level, Mr Nielsen concludes.
Meanwhile, a report on the online pages of the International Herald Tribune recently said most people recognise the value of effective web design.
