British retailer House of Fraser has called in a specialist to increase its online exposure and boost its search engine rankings.
The high street store has hired the services of Latitude to increase its organic search engine results as part of its marketing strategy. It launched its transactional website in September this year.
Chief executive officer of Latitude Dylan Thwaites commented that British online shopping has soared in recent years.
"In the near future the most successful retail brands will be the ones that fully integrate their online presence in their overall marketing strategy," he added.
Latitude reports that search engine optimisation is a vital tool for any online marketer as 80 per cent of transactions via the internet are the result of an initial search.
However, because the main search engines use different criteria to rank websites and do not reveal what they are, it can be difficult for firms to increase their website rankings alone, it claims.
The company won the Media Momentum Award in 2006 for being the country's fastest growing digital media firm.
