It is important to maintain enthusiasm when launching a search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign, an expert has stated.

Arnie Kuenn, president of search engine marketing firm Vertical Measures, made his comments through an article on the Internet Search Engine Database, noting that many marketers begin their campaigns "in overdrive".

They fill their site with strong content, build links with relevant sites and enjoy the attention of blogs, all of which boosts their search engine rankings, he explained.

However, some marketers then discover "that they just don't have the time to continue writing articles, they stop visiting blogs because they are overwhelmed with new customers ... and they stop building links or slow down considerably", Mr Kuenn said.

Unfortunately, once a website stops actively encouraging an online following, its search portal ranking will drop, he added.

According to SEO company Big Mouth Media, half of the world's population have internet access and nine out of ten of those use search engines to find the websites they need.
