A charitable search engine has launched an application which allows users to share a customised dancing Santa with their friends.

Everyclick, a search engine which enables browsers to raise money for charity while they search, commissioned avatar technology firm Oddcast to create the application, named Santa Swing.

Adi Sideman, chief executive officer of Oddcast, said the viral nature of the application means users are effectively marketing the brand, adding that viral marketing is "unmatched" in terms of return on investment.

"Santa Swing has the hallmarks of a great viral success story: it's user generated, easy to use, culturally relevant and entertaining," he added.

Earlier this year, online marketing firm Direct Traffic Media suggested that viral marketing is the future of online advertising.

However, it warned that for a campaign to be successful, it must hit a "social nerve", which is unpredictable and difficult to engineer.
