Those eager to market their brand to people in a number of different languages should keep factors such as content organisation, site structure, geographic and vernacular targeting in mind, it has been suggested.

A post on Google's Webmaster Central blog by Charlene Perez and Juliane Stiller from the company's search quality team notes that individuals should take into consideration whether it is viable to purchase country-specific top-level domains (TLD) for all the regions that are being targeted.

"This option is beneficial if you want to target the countries that each TLD is associated with, a method known as geo-targeting," the article continues.

It also notes that search engines do not consider the same content in different languages to be duplicated, suggesting that people avoid mixing languages on each page as this could confuse Googlebot as well as users.

Navigation and content should be in the same language on each page, the article concludes.

In recent days, news provider Reuters noted that former Google engineers announced the launch of a new search engine called Cuil which they claim can index a larger portion of the web than their previous employer's service.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18724892-ADNFCR
