Taking its business online has been a good move for one voucher company, it is reported.

Secure Vouchers launched last year and began by printing tokens and coupons for business use, the Birmingham Post notes.

However, it struggled to build visibility and so optimised its website for search engines such as Yahoo! and Google.

Now, almost all business is generated online and it has even begun trading overseas, the newspaper continues.

Michael Kelly, Secure Vouchers' marketing manager, tells the publication: "Using the web in this way has cut down massively on our set-up and marketing costs and has given us the chance to sell ourselves to the world on a relatively small budget."

Last month, the Interactive Media in Retail Group published its e-retail sales index, which revealed UK shoppers spent £26.5 billion online in the first half of 2008.

It noted this means 17 pence in every pound is now spent through the web.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18715989-ADNFCR
