Google has redesigned its homepage so when people create a new account, they will automatically be signed up to Google+.

It will also require individuals to add their details to Gmail. Previously, internet users could use an existing email address from any provider.

The new homepage promotes the benefits of Google+, such as being able to quickly share posts and photos with family, friends and business contacts. It also highlights the ability of a Google account to enable people to access photos and Gmail from any device they choose.

However, the Google Operating System website explained that the old way of signing up to Google can still be accessed through products like Blogger and the calendar.

A spokesman for Google told the site: "We're working to develop a consistent sign-up flow across our different products as part of our efforts to create an intuitive, beautifully simple, Google-wide user experience."

He added that the new sign-up process "enables new users to take advantage of everything Google can offer".

Recently commenting on Google's successful fourth quarter 2011 financial performance, chief executive officer of the search organisation Larry Page said 2012 will be an exciting time for Google+, which will help boost the consumer experience of its services.
