The rapid growth of mobile web and application usage over the past 12 months has been highlighted in a report.

Carried out by mobile advertising marketplace AdMob, the study found development within the sector is widely distributed with 34 countries sending a total of more than ten million ad requests to the firm's network in September 2008.

This compared to 16 countries in the same month last year.

According to the company, the Nokia N95 steadily gained a larger share of the UK market throughout 2008 and is now the leading handset, with 9.7 per cent of ad requests.

The Sony Ericsson K800i and W810i - which were the number one and five handsets respectively in September last year - remained in the top five for 2008.

Worldwide mobile ad requests stood at 5.1 billion, while ads served increased by more than a quarter (26 per cent) to 4.5 billion.

In other news, a study by MarketingProfs published on web resource Marketing Pilgrim found advertisers are increasingly moving their budgets to online media.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18830953-ADNFCR
