Users of the mobile web can now access their search history in Google on their handsets.

US consumers signed into Google can see their previous searches and the websites they visited from these by selecting the History link at the bottom of the homepage.

The history includes searches made from both mobile phones and desktop computers.

Users can opt to not have their search history saved at all if they wish and can also remove items from the list, as well as select listings that they have marked with a star.

"Whenever you want to return to the site, simply click on the Starred Items option in history. This way, while you're out with friends, you can easily get back to the website," explain Ran Liu and Nick Fey of Google on the Google Mobile blog.

The new feature may prompt businesses to focus more on mobile search engine optimisation based on Google, particularly in light of recent figures from Royal Pingdom suggesting that Google accounts for 98.29 per cent of the mobile search market.
