The
mobile phone has developed into an important platform for
online marketing, a new report has suggested.
In its inaugural UK PC & Mobile Internet Usage White Paper, online analyst comScore found that the mobile internet currently reaches 25 per cent of over-13s - more than 12.8 million people.
By comparison, the internet reaches 70 per cent of over-15s using PCs, or 35.2 million people.
Herve Le Jouan, managing director of comScore Europe, implied that the introduction of the
smartphone over the last few years has had a major impact on the mobile internet sector.
"If any UK marketers were still awaiting a sign that the mobile internet platform has come of age, then the launch of the
iPhone 3G certainly provided it," he remarked.
The report came as
MySpace Mobile announced it would become the first major social networking website to begin streaming media content to mobile devices, although the service will not be available to
iPhone users.
