A new report has suggested that more could be done by tour operators to take advantage of the mobile web.
The latest Tour Operator Technology Review from Genesys suggests that the mobile medium is still a growing channel and should be a point of focus for travel firms.
While it is unlikely that mobile commerce will enter the mainstream any time soon, it is essential that organisations set up a website that is usable on mobile devices, Paul Richer, senior partner at Genesys, says.
"It is vitally important for operators to view their own websites on mobile devices to make sure that they are still readable," he states, according to TravelMole.
Last year, a study by search engine marketing agency Greenlight indicated that Direct Line Holidays, Thompson and Holiday Hypermarket were the most visible companies in Google search results for holiday-related queries in July.
However, just 16 of the top 60 websites came up for more than 10 per cent of searches undertaken during the month - potentially highlighting the importance of travel search engine optimisation.
