Businesses that make use of mobile marketing may be able to benefit from increased ad relevancy.

This is according to Matt McNeil of email marketing specialist Sign-Up.to, who says that the mobile medium has become more and more popular in the last year, making it an ideal advertising channel.

The fact that mobile ads can be tailored to individuals and to different contexts can be beneficial for marketers, he explains, as higher relevancy tends to increase engagement on the part of the customer.

"It is still in the realm of early adoption but that's going to change quite rapidly," Mr McNeil remarks.

"There is a very strong synergy between online and mobile but the lines are becoming increasingly blurred between the two."

A recent study by the Internet Advertising Bureau, Nationwide and other agencies suggested that combining online marketing with mobile ads can boost brand awareness, buyer intent and other factors among consumers compared with using just one or neither of these channels.

Ad recognition was found to be 43 per cent higher, with spontaneous brand awareness increasing by 50 per cent.
