Global mobile marketing is on the increase, according to a new report.

Figures from BuzzCity show that mobile web ad impressions rose by 61 per cent in the second quarter of 2010 compared with the previous three-month period.

The company says that 44 markets reported monthly traffic in excess of ten million impressions, up from 32 in the first quarter.

Google, Yahoo! and MSN all intensified their mobile marketing efforts during the period.

Indonesia saw the highest number of mobile ad impressions, followed by India, the US, South Africa and Vietnam.

The UK ranked eighth in the list but saw its overall impressions drop by 17 per cent.

"In order for mobile advertising to continue to perform strongly, it is important that new media platforms are generated in line with consumer demand," said K F Lai, chief executive of BuzzCity.

Earlier this year, figures from comScore indicated that the UK has seen the biggest take-up of smartphones in the last year compared with other European markets.
