The mobile web will become ubiquitous by 2020, according to a new survey - signifying potentially good news for the mobile marketing sector.

Conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, the poll asked almost 1,200 internet experts and stakeholders on their views regarding the state of the web in 2020.

When it came to the prediction of the mobile phone becoming the primary internet connection tool for the majority of global web users, 81 per cent of respondents said they mostly agreed with the forecast.

The prediction suggested that accessibility and the relative low cost of mobile web connections will help to drive uptake around the world, with services to be offered under global standards accepted by most operators.

Commenting on the findings, Kent Kirschner of Neighborhood America said that marketer interest in the mobile platform will aid growth of the medium.

"The ability to dig deeply into individual users and understand their consumer habits, detailed demographic information and geographic movements is fast becoming the holy grail of marketing," he commented.

According to a survey carried out by Vanson Bourne for O2 earlier this year, mobile marketing spending will rise by nearly 150 per cent by 2013.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18928797-ADNFCR
