This year will see the mobile web develop significantly, according to a new report.

Research and analysis provider Gartner said in its latest forecast that the mobile internet will become a greater focus of most business-to-consumer mobile marketing campaigns this year.

It explained that some of the main advantages of mobile marketing include increasing support for widgets by mobile browsers, allowing simple feeds to be streamed more easily to portable devices.

Nick Jones, vice-president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, said that as mobile strategies tend to assume certain things about the evolution of technology, it is vital to pick out those technologies likely to evolve quickly during the course of these strategies.

"The eight mobile technologies that we have pinpointed as ones to watch in 2009 and 2010 will have broad effects and, as such, are likely to pose issues to be addressed by short-term strategies and policies," he added.

Other mobile trends to see growth in 2009 include location sensing, near field communication and Bluetooth 3.0, according to Gartner.

Large brands in the UK expect to increase mobile marketing spending by 150 per cent by 2013, according to a study carried out by Vanson Bourne for O2 last year.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18997772-ADNFCR
