Mobile internet use continues to grow in terms of data transferred, page views and unique users, according to recent research by web browser firm Opera.

In the company's State of the Mobile Web report for the month of August, Jon S von Tetzchner, chief executive of the software company, states Google was number one in the top ten sites in the UK.

The search engine giant was followed by Yahoo!, Facebook and the BBC.

Social networking resource Bebo overtook Microsoft's Live.com to finish in fifth place, pushing the software giant's search engine into sixth.

Meanwhile, a recent study by broadband communication analyst Point Topic suggests a year of "heavy marketing" of mobile broadband has seen mobile networks move ahead of Wi-Fi hotspots as the most popular way of accessing the internet while on the move.

Tim Johnson, chief analyst at the body, states: "Vodafone is top in dongle-user market share with 24 per cent of respondents. O2 comes in at 23 per cent followed by Orange, T-Mobile and 3."ADNFCR-1351-ID-18798583-ADNFCR
