The potential opportunities presented by the developing mobile internet are "massive",
Yahoo! has asserted.
Marco Boerries, executive vice-president of the search engine giant's services portfolio Connected Life, has laid out plans to encourage the growth of the mobile web ecosystem and to "extend" Yahoo!'s leadership within the industry.
He stated that the company plans to encourage "billions" more users to come online through their mobile handsets.
One way in which Yahoo! has been seeking to achieve this is by delivering essential services through mobile web, which consumers cannot do without, the expert continued.
"We are playing an increasingly essential role in helping the ecosystem's constituents overcome some of the biggest challenges that have limited its growth to date," Mr Boerries added.
According to the
Mobile Data Association, during December last year, 17 million people accessed the web through their handsets, a figure which equates to around 23 per cent of all UK mobile users.
