Google has upgraded its News gadget for its popular Toolbar product.

The Google Toolbar sits at the top of the browser and offers users one-click access to search and other Google services like email.

Now users can explore Google News straight from the Toolbar by accessing a variety of different categories from a drop-down menu.

Available news sections include US, World, Entertainment and Sci-Tech, with the top stories for each category displayed from the Toolbar.

Users can simply click on a link to an article to read it in a new tab or select 'all news articles' to view all related stories.

"You can read the news as soon as it breaks, browse top news headlines and images - all without having to leave the site you're on," associate product marketing manager Hicham Alaoui said on the Google News Blog.

Last month, the Google News Blog announced the extension of Google's coverage of top quotes in its News product to include those dating back to 2003.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18871488-ADNFCR
