UK internet traffic to news aggregators - such as Google News, Delicious, Digg and Stumble Upon - has more than doubled over the last couple of years, according to Hitwise.

Robin Goad, research director at the online resource, notes Google News UK is the most visited news aggregator site, but that it does not "dominate" the market.

He states BBC News is the second most visited downstream site from the news aggregators.

Mr Goad adds NewsNow receives more than a fifth of all visits to news aggregator sites, while Digg and Stumble Upon each manage more than ten per cent.

"News aggregators sent 27.2 per cent of their traffic to news and media sites during August.

"Print media websites received over two-thirds of this traffic, with IT media websites and community directories and guides websites, each receiving five per cent," Mr Goad concludes.

In other news, the Press Gazette noted comScore's managing director for Europe Herve Le Jouan told the Association of Online Publishers Digital Publishing Summit recently that BBC News and BBC Sport are the UK's top two web-based news brands for mobile users.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18811696-ADNFCR
