How to use press releases for SEO

Marketers have been offered tips on how to go about using online news and press releases to enhance their search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns.

Writing for SEOmoz, Mike Kalil of Danconia Media explained that press releases should be designed in such a way that members of the press will notice them and potentially link back to the company in their resulting news articles.

He advised making press releases get straight to the point and suggested that PR professionals avoid using jargon and marketing speak to ensure their releases are easy to understand and objective.

Mr Kalil went on to recommend manually sending press releases to selected bloggers and media outlets rather than just submitting them to online news release aggregator websites where they may be less likely to be noticed.

"If your link is relevant to the story, the reporter will probably include it. If not, you're still getting good publicity," he remarked.

Last year, Mihaela Vorvoreanu of Clemson University told BtoBOnline that it is only recently that companies have thought to use press releases as a way of boosting online marketing rather than to just announce news.
