Newspapers 'turning to web-based delivery'

Newspapers are increasingly recognising the need to make information available through the web or a mobile phone rather than in print, new research has revealed.

A study conducted by market research firm InfoCom has shown that readers now expect current affairs to be accessible through all mediums.

Furthermore, it claimed consumers use the internet as their main source of information, leading to a decline in the circulation of print newspapers.

This means that publishers must target new technologies to deliver their news, the report continued.

"Newspapers are realising that the most important part of the word is 'news' and not 'paper'," the report commented.

Last year, John Lloyd, director of journalism at the Reuters Institute in Oxford, told the BBC that news has developed into a "free commodity" which has changed the way in which it is funded.

He also predicted a rise in the number of people wanting in-depth coverage of different and specific sectors.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18539187-ADNFCR
