Facebook has made another update to its service shifting it into the limelight once more, with news articles now being displayed in its search results.
Users will now be able to view articles in the search results if their friends have 'liked' a story.
However, the article results do not seem to be based solely on 'likes', comments Matt McGee at Search Engine Land, as articles with fewer 'likes' can be ranked above those with more.
Allfacebook.com says: "The key here is that Facebook is using the social graph (and other factors) to determine relevance."
The site also notes that this move highlights the competition between Facebook and Google, as the move to further refine their search results is indicative of its ambitions in the field.
Google is rumoured to be working on its own social media competitor to Facebook.
Recently, Facebook announced its new Places application, which some believe will bring location-based services into the mainstream, along with more directly targeted advertising.
