Online marketers turning to social media

A significant proportion of businesses are making use of social media in their
online marketing campaigns.
This is according to a new survey of 880 marketers by social media specialist Michael Stelzner, who found that almost nine in ten respondents use social networking sites and
blogs as part of their daily
internet marketing activities.
Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn and
Facebook were found to be the most used social media marketing tools, with most marketers stating that social media marketing is best for increasing brand exposure.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents admitted to only starting their social media initiatives in the last few months.
"Social media marketing is an engagement with online communities to generate exposure, opportunity and sales," commented Mr Stelzner.
Websites that publish
online news could take advantage of social media through the use of social bookmarking tools that let users post their favourite
news articles for others to rate and comment on.
According to comScore, social bookmarking site
Digg has more than 17 million unique users worldwide, while over 28 million pieces of content - including
news articles - are shared by
Facebook users every month.
