SMP: All firms can gain from social networks

Both large and small businesses can make use of social networks, an expert believes.

Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of global resource the Social Media Portal (SMP), explains that whatever the size of a company, networking is vital as they need to create long-term relationships with their clients, suppliers and peers.

In fact, within some sectors, social networking has become an "integral" part of business, he continues.

However, Mr Gibbon warns that firms must understand the culture of the online social environment and the networks they take part in.

"[Such networks] are primarily to allow individuals and groups to collectively educate, enlighten, share experience, expertise and knowledge; ultimately to grow as business people," he states.

Online networking has been a major factor in encouraging people to network again, Mr Gibbon adds.

Elemental, the organisation behind the SMP, urges businesses to prepare content and ensure their profiles and news remains current.

Furthermore, it recommends firms "embrace" the social media ethos of sharing information, tips and expertise.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18648360-ADNFCR
