Social media 'should be integrated with email'

It is important for digital marketers to work on combining channels in the coming year - such as by linking email newsletters with social media.

This is according to Tink Taylor, managing director of dotMailer, who commented that it is important for different channels to stop "fighting against each other" and instead examine ways they can integrate.

He highlighted that one benefit of linking email marketing with social media is that people who engage with social networks are likely to read more emails as well.

"Companies like Yahoo! have been looking more at the level of engagement people have before they drop an email in your inbox," he pointed out.

US-based email marketing solutions provider Silverpop recently carried out an online survey of marketers, which revealed that four in ten plan to increase budgets for email campaigns this year.

Some 65 per cent of those who are boosting their budgets say their top goal for the new year is to drive incremental revenue via their email marketing campaign.
