Social media tactics 'boost traffic'

Social media marketing can dramatically improve the number of visitors a website gains, an expert has commented.

Industry reporter Frank Stoczko made his assertion in an article for online resource PromotionWorld, adding that viral tactics such as widgets can also really boost the traffic a website receives.

However, he highlighted that it is important a website is as attractive as its marketing efforts.

"Create a great looking website, fill it with informative content and useful information and voila - you have something that people will want," Mr Stoczko added.

Recently, research giant Forrester urged marketers to consider promoting a business through social applications such as networking sites and online communities, as they can be a cost-effective way of advertising a firm.

It suggested cheap marketing tactics such as this can help a business survive and potentially thrive within an economic recession.

Forrester's researcher Josh Bernoff called upon marketers to stop "toe-dipping" and invest.
