Some 27 per cent of all email marketing restaurant promotions and 19 per cent of live event promotions are opened at the start of the day, new research has revealed.

According to email marketing company Pure360, recipients of such e-marketing material are "very receptive" to consumer promotions in the first hour of the traditional working day.

Meanwhile, the period between 15:00 and 17:00 GMT - referred to as the "post-lunch slump" - sees people become more responsive to email marketing that offers them the chance of life changes.

Marc Munier, commercial director of Pure360, said: "Over the course of the working day, there is a shift among consumers regarding what type of emails they are likely to open."

He added that 42.6 per cent of all financial services emails are opened in the afternoon.

According to the most recent Bellwether Report from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and BDO, overall marketing spend fell for the eighth quarter in a row in the three months to September, but web marketing expenditure grew during the period.
