More than four in ten UK web users visited a blog in August, according to new figures from comScore.
The research company said that 14.5 million people visited at least one blog during the month, with online journals hosted on Google's Blogger platform attracting the most visits overall.
WordPress and Six Apart - which includes popular blogging service LiveJournal - also attracted particularly high numbers of visits from Britons in August.
Technology blog Engadget saw the highest traffic with 243,000 unique visitors, followed by UnrealityTV, Gizmodo and Kotaku.
The research also found that heavy UK bloggers tend to be young, tech-savvy and inclined towards humorous content.
"Blogs have become part of the essential fabric of the internet today," remarked Herve Le Jouan of comScore Europe.
"They live and breathe in real-time, helping quench media consumers' thirst for the most up-to-date breaking news, information and analysis."
A recent JupiterResearch study for BuzzLogic found that blog readers tend to be more reliant on links than search when it comes to finding new online journals to peruse.
