An effective way to improve a business website's search engine rankings is to make simple enhancements to its homepage title tag, it has been asserted.
Sector commentator Chris Smith makes his comments on web resource Search Engine Land, explaining that the text in title tags is one of the major things search engines use to determine what keywords are relevant to a page.
He also states that paying attention to such text is one of the most frequently neglected areas of website design and search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy.
Mr Smith suggests that a homepage title should be a combination of information, including the name of a firm, the sector in which it operates and its geographical region.
He also recommends that brand marketers should aim to be succinct with their titles and that they should be different for every page on a website.
"If you have a good title tag, you can rank at the top of the search results for users seeking your business - and a bad title can leave you in the dark," he concludes.
Meanwhile, Yahoo!'s Smart Start Team recently wrote in the search engine's Search Marketing Blog that web marketers should group their keywords in the most effective way possible to enhance their SEO rankings.
