Travel companies would do well to include social media in their search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns, it has been suggested.

Speaking to the Eye for Travel website, Scott McNeely of Viator explained that social media such as user reviews can be a good source of regularly updated and relevant content - which is vital to SEO strategies.

He went on to note that it is not necessary to come up with a major campaign aimed at attracting record numbers of website visitors, advising travel companies to instead aim for a traffic increase of between 15 and 25 per cent for their top 500 keywords or top 50 landing pages.

User reviews, photos and videos are becoming increasingly important to the travel sector's use of social media and websites that do not consider such content are unlikely to survive in the industry for much longer, Mr McNeely claimed.

Last year, a study by Frommer's indicated that more than two-thirds of travel marketers were looking to spend more on SEO as part of their online strategies.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18991487-ADNFCR
