User-generated comments 'can be highly amusing'

In an April Fool's Day post on the Econsultancy blog on Friday, the site's director of innovation Chris Lake took a look at some humorous but genuine user-generated comments from Amazon.

His article highlights how a product - whether intended to be serious or novelty - can take on a life of its own when user-generated comments are welcome.

The extracts include underpants for squirrels which one reviewer claims his parrot mistakenly opened and fell in love with.

Meanwhile, the need for accuracy in online text is highlighted by one complaint from a purchaser of a fresh "whole" rabbit that arrived skinned, gutted and with no head.

Readers responded to the post with their own favourite reviews - including critic-style opinions on the Mr Men series and the ecstatic feedback given to Katie Price and Peter Andre's interpretation of A Whole New World.

Formerly working in magazine publishing, Mr Lake joined Econsultancy in 2003 and blogs about online start-ups, SEO and social media.
