Marketers could benefit from a new YouTube facility which allows users to make money by uploading content, the website claims.

The site, which lets visitors upload video and broadcast it to browsers, has expanded its Partner Programme, where the most popular original-content creators receive a portion of the income generated by adverts running next to their videos.

Now, anyone in the US or Canada can apply to the programme, a move which it says will inspire users to create "engaging and viral content".

YouTube reports that this will also expand the options open to online marketers.

"Advertisers are now capable of reaching more qualified consumers by targeting their campaigns to user-generated partner videos tailored to the unique interests and tastes of their target audiences," it states.

As millions of videos are viewed via the website each day, marketers will be able to build a "new level of engagement" with their target audience, YouTube adds.

YouTube was created in February 2005 and is one of the most visited online sites for video entertainment.
