The digital marketing channel has relatively low costs, a boon given the current uncertain economic climate, it has been noted.
Simon Wharton, managing director of agency PushOn, tells web resource Crain's Manchester Business that the market conditions present at the moment are of great benefit to the digital medium.
"This depression is the greatest opportunity that digital marketing has had," he states, explaining that an increasing number of clients want every penny of their budget to be accountable, something which is entirely possible with web marketing.
Mr Wharton's comments follow assertions by Oliver Stephen, managing director of web consultancy MBL Solutions, who recently stated that online marketing is flourishing despite the credit crunch.
David Bird, course leader for the MSc in digital marketing communications at Manchester Metropolitan University, adds that firms should look to make use of social networking sites as a communication tool.
He also explains that blogs are one of the best ways for companies to engage with clients and should use them as a means of two-way communication, rather than a one-way information broadcasting tool.
