All content on a website should be directed at generating traffic, according to a Google sales engineer.
Speaking at the Association of Online Publishers' Search Engine Optimisation(SEO) Forum earlier this week, Jean-Laurent Wotton explained that sites with a clear and simple structure often enjoy higher search rankings.
He explained that specialised site maps and user-friendly page design are two things the search engine frequently rewards.
Mr Wotton also offered a number of tips to naturally improve SEO, including clear and logical headers, meta-descriptions - or 'snippets' - that offer brief summaries of the page and sparing use of both Javascript and Flash.
Writing on the Econsultancy blog this week, Patricio Robles suggested many firms are misinformed about SEO best practices.
He explained website copy should always be "written for humans" and that SEO is an ongoing process, rather than a final destination.
Mr Robles also suggested that when blogs contain relevant, high-quality content, they can help a site naturally improve its SEO rankings.
