Google chief executive Eric Schmidt was yesterday questioned on his thoughts about the emergence of rival search engine, Microsoft Bing.
A number of industry commentators have suggested that the search engine optimisation landscape will change as Bing continues to increase its market share, but Mr Schmidt would not be drawn into a detailed discussion on the competitor.
USA Today reports that the Google boss, who was talking to reporters at a New York conference, said: "It's best for you all to judge our competitors."
He added that Google's current business strategy "of just trying to do a really good job of what you do" has worked to date.
The co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin, was also present at the New York gathering - and he claimed that is healthy for the industry to have a number of competitors in the search market.
Earlier this week, Google announced that its AdSense service for mobiles has been optimised for high-end phones such as smartphones, opening up a number of new opportunities for mobile marketing.
