Google: Search marketing important to SMEs

Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) fail to use search marketing to bring their website to the attention of potential consumers, it has been claimed.
Brynne Zaccaro, channel marketing specialist with Google, highlighted recent findings from a WebVisible-Nielsen survey which showed 74 per cent of people use a search engine to gather information on local services and products.
Despite this, many firms believe they do not have the appropriate knowledge, resources or time to devote to search marketing, he claimed.
"There's a tremendous opportunity for local merchants to grow their business through online marketing," Mr Zaccaro stated.
Google is to address the gap by creating search-based advertising products, he added.
Recently, the Sunday Times reported that Google is in talks with British newspapers to sell printed advertising space to its online clients.
It claimed that Google Print Ads will be an extension of Google AdWords, allowing marketers to bid for available advertising space rather than pay a set fee.
