A new update to Google's Site Search product could prove to be particularly useful for news websites, according to the search engine.

Google has added a new feature, On-Demand Indexing, which allows users to instantly re-index their website content for inclusion in website search results, with new pages appearing in listings no more than 24 hours after the 'Index Now' button is clicked.

Google said that this could be good for media websites publishing breaking news throughout the day, as well as online retailers in the habit of regularly adding new product pages to their e-commerce sites.

"On-Demand Indexing is like a turbocharger for Google Site Search, ensuring that your newest pages appear in search results on your website fast", Nitin Mangtani and Tom Duerig of Google said in a post on the Official Google Blog.

Google Site Search was launched in June this year and makes use of cloud computing technology to power users' website search facilities.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18875936-ADNFCR
