People in the US are more likely to type one keyword - as opposed to any other number of words - into search engines when looking for information online.
That is the according to Experian Hitwise, which has released search engine data for the period between October and November.
One-word search requests made up 24.13 per cent of the market share last month, while two-word and three-word key phrases accounted for 23.14 and 20.37 per cent of the market respectively.
Eight-word key phrases was the only area where considerable growth in usage was reported - the number of search requests of this type went up one per cent during the month to give this combination a 3.54 per cent market share.
Companies working on search engine optimisation projects may investigate this kind of data further in order to work out which keywords they would like to use in their campaigns.
Google recently revealed that Facebook, BBC, YouTube, Hotmail and games have been some of the most popular searched-for words in the UK this year.
