How will Google Caffeine affect your SEO strategy?

Google is preparing to roll out its Caffeine update to the way in which it indexes the web - but what effect will this have on search engine optimisation (SEO)?

The change will occur in the new year, but most users are unlikely to notice anything different, according to Erick Schonfeld of TechCrunch.

But while the appearance and feel of the search engine will not change, Google will likely present results faster and make its search offering more real-time, he said.

Citing a Summit Media study conducted earlier this year, Mr Schonfeld added that rankings are unlikely to be affected, although those sites that do slip down will be suffering from a lack of new content - potentially making a case for an SEO strategy that incorporates regular website updates, such as via news feeds.

"Keeping your site fresh to be crawled by Caffeine will be important," he remarked.

Google launched a developer preview of Caffeine in August to obtain feedback on the differences between the current version of the search engine and the new one.
