Microsoft has claimed it will be able to out-do Google in finding the most relevant search results for its users.

Developers from the company have said that Google 's PageRank system, which is led by how many other webpages link to a certain site, is outdated and have proposed a new system, CNET News reports.

Under Microsoft 's new plans, its MSN search will be able to easily define more useful websites, according to the news provider.

In BrowseRank: Letting Web Users Vote for Page Importance, three researchers from Microsoft Research Asia and three academics wrote: "The more visits of the page made by the users and the longer time periods spent by the users on the page, the more likely the page is important.

"We can leverage hundreds of millions of users' implicit voting on page importance."

However, CENT News said, Google has pointed out that its PageRank systemn is just one of over 200 ways it determines where a website should come in its search ranking results.

Websites can also make sure they appeal to search engines through search engine optimisation.

According to webcredible this is important because 64 per cent of people use search engines as their main way to find websites.
