SEO efforts based around Mother's Day should start well in advance of the date itself, according to a Microsoft Advertising blog post.
Erin O'Donnell, a vertical specialist on the SMB Advertising team, writes that optimised copy should be tested as early as the beginning of April for the US audience.
In the US, Mother's Day is on Sunday May 8th in 2011 - more than a month later than its UK date of April 3rd.
That could make now the ideal time to get advertising copy optimised for the UK audience and potentially catch some early US traffic at the same time.
"Mother's Day traffic peaks three days before the actual holiday," Ms O'Donnell points out.
"The closer to Mother's Day it gets, the more urgent shoppers will be."
She adds that the main shopping categories for the occasion include jewellery, dining out, flowers and gift cards, followed by clothing, electronics and greetings cards.
