A new advertising service has been developed by Google which will enable promoters to join placement-targeted ads and keyword-targeted ads in a single campaign.
The search engine's AdWords service will now enable marketers to choose exactly where they want their promotion to appear, determining how much they pay for it.
Chris Ailey, internet search marketing manager for PC World, said using both keywords and placements has made the service more effective.
"It allows us to target specific, relevant ad copy to an individual site's user base and target audience, and also gives us the ability to better target specific products and product areas on a relevant site's content," he continued.
Mr Ailey added that following which adverts are clicked on has also become easier.
Search marketing firm SearchIgnite has suggested that the proposed Google-Yahoo! advertising link-up could push up the average price of an advert on Yahoo! by 22 per cent.
