UK firms have increased their use of search engine marketing by ten per cent in the last year, according to a new report.
Figures from Efficient Frontier show that advertising activity on search engines rose between the second quarter of 2009 and the same period in 2010 thanks to consumers turning to these services more to find the products and information they want.
While cost-per-click (CPC) rates are still lower than they were a year ago, all of the major search engines recorded a slight increase between the first and second quarters of 2010.
The company predicts that search marketing spending will see a ten to 15 per cent increase this year.
"CPC rates saw a fairly dramatic drop last year, but the slight increase in the last three months indicates that the market is turning a corner. Search is faring well," commented Jonathan Beeston, clients services director for Europe at Efficient Frontier.
Separate data from the firm for the US also shows a 24 per cent rise in search online marketing spending in the last year.
