Words are the key to attracting the Google spiders that determine search engine ranking, an expert claims.

Writing for Real Business, Dawn Gibbins advises business webmasters to fill their sites with relevant and frequently-updated words to ensure search engine optimisation (SEO).

One way to do this is to have regularly-refreshed content - for example by having a news section.

According to the SEO expert, each page on a website should have at least 200 words to appeal to the search engine's spiders, which are unable to read animations or pictures.

Ms Gibbins also recommends putting a lot of keywords into articles and entries.

To do this effectively, she says, it is necessary for webmasters to anticipate the groups of words which users might type into their search engines.

Such phrases are known as long-tail keywords like "household plumber in Bradford", Ms Gibbins explains.

Last month, Lee Smith, director of Utopia Creative Solutions, told marketers they content of their sites should be targeted towards those who are likely to visit it.
