Businesses looking to ramp up their search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns may do well to consider previously unexplored areas.

This is the suggestion of Faction Media director of search Stephen Riegel, who noted in a column for BtoB Online that there are several core SEO tactics which tend to be overlooked by marketers.

These include ensuring website navigation is as clear as possible for both users and search engine spiders and checking that all site code is validated through tools such as those offered by the World Wide Web Consortium, he commented.

Websites should have a unique title and description for each page, while popular internal search keywords can be harnessed for use within pay-per-click campaigns, Mr Riegel explained.

He also advised setting up an XML sitemap as this can lead to extra navigation links and help search engine spiders find out more about the website.

Google recently launched a new open source version of its Sitemap Generator tool, which creates XML, mobile and code search sitemaps based a range of website data.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18974396-ADNFCR
