Online retailers with a dedicated search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy that includes articles with links will benefit from a "constant flow" of traffic to their websites, according to a marketing professional.

Sam Tilson, online marketing director of retailer Zoombits.co.uk said SEO offers a number of benefits compared to paid search campaigns.

One way for online firms to ramp up their SEO strategy is to consider using natural website links created by journalists.

"The only way you'll stay on top is if you get natural, high-authority website links," he said. "If you write a good article that gets picked up by the press, then it affects your search position."

Mr Tilson also explained that while SEO represents a longer-term upfront investment, benefits such as a regular stream of visitors to the site can be seen in as few as six months.

Recent research from Guava and Econsultancy indicated that social media campaigns are tipped to be one of the major areas of investment for online marketers in the coming year.ADNFCR-1351-ID-458043440-ADNFCR
