Carrying out a website redesign can be a daunting task, but there are a number of things to keep in mind in order to maintain an effective search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy while such work is carried out, it has been noted.

Writing on Search Engine Land, sector commentator Jill Whalen explains if URL extensions are altering, the same basic page and file name that the old system was using can be retained.

Meanwhile, if a site will be incorporating flash design into it, she recommends marketers do not make the entire website into one single presentation as although Google has made advances in being able to index flash information, it is not something firms want to count on.

Concluding, she states if a site's content is being changed, all the old optimised copy should not be wiped out in favour of something new.

Ms Whalen says: "This happens more often than you can imagine and it's not until the search engine traffic has come to a halt that anyone realises what happened.

"If your existing content worked well to bring search engine visitors and convert them into customers, then why change it?"

Meanwhile, a study by Keynote Systems recently noted iPhone users are frustrated by the mobile portal design of many popular news sites.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18822447-ADNFCR
